TalkBack
Dunlop Art Gallery

Sherwood Village Library Branch, Regina, SK, CANADA

A Project by Shelley Ouellet with Teen Collaborators
curator: Annette Hurtig
assistant: Jacob Korzcynski
January 27 - March 15, 2006

With TALKBACK Shelley Ouellet generates an unique work-in-progress that involves young people from the community served by the Regina Public Library Sherwood Village Branch. Developed in collaboration with students from Michael A. Riffel High School and Winston Knoll Collegiate, the TALKBACK project identifies and iterates social and political concerns affecting teens in the suburbs.

The TALKBACK project will become manifest in two forms. First, a mural will constructed in the gallery of tags pulled from message-bearing bookmarks that have been inserted into library materials at the RPL and at the high schools. Bookmarks feature slogans written by students and instructions to participate in the project. Those who find the bookmark are invited to return the tag end to the gallery and stick it on the mural. For a week the Sherwood Village Gallery will operate as a studio. Teens from the community are invited to drop by and TALKBACK about important issues. These taped interviews will be shown as a multi-channel installation for the duration of the exhibition.
