Bonjour. Je m'appelle Shelley Ouellet is a web-based project incorporating technology through and online translation service, real-time chats and web camera performances. The project explores the strained relationship between Québec and Alberta and seeks to address political alienation and division with new technology.

A website was developed in English and translated to French in order in introduce the artist to a francophone audience. Throughout the run of the exhibition visitors to the gallery in Québec could access a live video feed of the artist in her Calgary studio and join her in a chat session. Conversations were translated from English to French and back again using the www.altavista.com Babelfish tool. Translations are word by word and not by context and online chats quickly get confusing. Only the simplest sentences translate well, but a that's all it takes.
